Do you own a hybrid vehicle like the Toyota Prius? Like conventional gas-powered vehicles, hybrid models require general maintenance. Learn what hybrid services we provide at our Toyota service center in Baltimore, MD.
Battery Replacement
Traditional car batteries last three to five years. Hybrid batteries are sturdier and on average last around eight years, or roughly 100,000 miles. As with traditional batteries, corrosion can build up at the terminals; we can clean this off for you. Also, we can perform a voltage check during general maintenance.
Battery Cooling System
Hybrid vehicles contain a battery cooling system. As suggested in its name, this part keeps the battery cool. Overheating is the number one cause of premature battery wear. The cooling system requires occasional cleaning, and the part also contains a filter that needs to be periodically replaced.
Oil Change
Oil change intervals for hybrid cars are about the same as traditional vehicles. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, for example, requires an oil change every 5,000 miles or so. That’s on par with the industry average. Oil checks are performed the same way: by examining the dipstick for low levels or a sludge-like appearance.
Oxygen Sensor Replacement
Hybrid cars have oxygen sensors that operate the same way as those in gas-powered vehicles. This part assesses the level of unburned oxygen in the exhaust system. Excess levels can reduce fuel efficiency. Oxygen sensors on average last for about 60,000 miles. This applies for both hybrid and non-hybrid models.
